im thinking of getting a mixture low-lights and highlights in my red hair but i want to keep the look of my natural colour.

As a fellow redhead I can tell you it can be difficult. lol. From my personal experience blonde or sometimes an auburn (depending on your personal shade of red) work best. Carmels and blondes are really pretty with red hair, depending on what shade of red you are.
